The values are conservative, mid-range U.S. estimates compiled in September 2026. The main lifetime number uses the midpoint of the supplied breeder purchase-price range. Adoption is shown separately as an alternative acquisition scenario.
What is not modeled
Emergency procedures, regional price differences, inflation, boarding, housing deposits, licensing and end-of-life care are not separately projected. Breed health notes flag meaningful risks, but no specific diagnosis or procedure is added to the estimate.
Precision and uncertainty
Decimals in lifespan are retained exactly where provided. Currency is presented to the nearest dollar for readability. A longer lifespan can produce a higher lifetime cost even when yearly care is relatively inexpensive.

About
A clearer first step into dog ownership
This calculator turns recurring care into one understandable lifetime view, so prospective owners can compare breeds with both budget and wellbeing in mind.
Built for planning, not prediction
The estimate is a practical baseline. It should sit alongside conversations with a veterinarian, breeder or rescue and a realistic emergency fund.
